My Morning Routine

I came across the name Jocko Willink from one of my regular podcast host – Tim Ferris interviewing Jocko and among others in his podcast episode called Morning Routines and Strategies. Jocko is a decorated Navy SEAL officer, an author and a co-founder of Echelon Front. Upon coming across his work and stalking his Instagram feed, there was one key message that I found to be extremely useful and legit. So, enough talk – here it is.

Discipline equals freedom – Jocko Willink

Discipline is a key when establishing a morning routine and more importantly understanding why do we actually need it. Now, I’m not saying everyone should bandwagon onto the idea of waking up super early and tackle the day like a champ. But, those few 20% that have the will power keep on reading.

Importance of morning routine

Well, I can probably give you three reasons but, these are my reason and over time you readers out there can create your own morning routine and find your own meaning behind it.

  1. Set a tone for the day
  2. Gives the advantage to control over the schedule of the day. Making more time to do recreational activities (working out, going for a swim at the beach) that you find no time for.
  3. Increases productivity level in activities such as creative writing super early in the morning, or taking few hours to work on your personal projects before you head to work.

I believe building a morning routine overtime provides the psychological advantage mindset. By that I mean having the winning mindset while others sleep, you start working. I feel it provides that boost – ‘With a productive start, the day is mine for taking’.

My morning routine

As with anything I come across I must try it – so reading various blogs and articles. It was only right that I created my own morning routine.

  1. Wake up 5:00 – 5:15 am
  2. Meditate for 20 minutes
  3. Push-ups 3 sets with 30 seconds rest
  4. Shower alternatively between hot and cold

I know that waking up super early for every day will require some perseverance and through that resolve, I hope to make this a habit of mine.
